Product Guarantee & Care GuideUpdated 2 hours ago

Your guide to product guarantees, what is covered and how to care for your product

This guide explains the Harbour Lifestyle product guarantee, the parts of your product that are covered, what is not covered, and the care and maintenance needed to help keep your product in good condition. The guarantee period that applies to each part of your product is shown on the relevant product information.

Part A - Understanding your guarantee

1. Our product guarantee

Harbour Lifestyle products may contain several materials and functional components with different guarantee periods. The product page identifies the guarantee components that apply to the SKU and the duration applicable to each. The detailed rules below explain what each component guarantee means.

The guarantee is additional to, and does not affect, the customer's statutory rights.

The applicable guarantee period starts on delivery unless the product-specific statement says otherwise.

A repair or replacement does not restart the original guarantee period; the remaining period continues.

Where an identical replacement is no longer available, Harbour may provide a reasonably equivalent current component or product, subject to the remedies section and statutory rights.

Reasonable colour or appearance differences may occur between an original product and a later replacement because of natural variation, weathering or product evolution.

2. Finding the guarantee that applies to your product

Many Harbour Lifestyle products contain different materials or working parts. These can have different guarantee periods. Your product information will show the guarantee period that applies to each relevant part or material. Use the matching section of this guide to see what is covered, what is not covered and how to care for it.

Only the guarantee components that apply to your product are relevant to your purchase.

A single product may have more than one guarantee period - for example, a frame, tabletop, fabric and electrical component may each have their own period.

For simpler products, one guarantee period may apply to the whole product.

Where a separate manufacturer guarantee applies, this will be identified with the product information.

Where care differs between indoor and outdoor use, follow the section that matches how the product is sold and intended to be used.

For appliances and specialist components, follow the information for the specific product type where this is provided.

4. Universal assessment rules

The guarantee covers defects in materials or manufacture arising within the applicable guarantee period.

Normal wear, expected ageing and normal characteristics of a material are not defects.

Accidental damage, misuse, overloading, impact, inappropriate modification and external causes are not covered where they caused the issue.

A third-party installation, repair or modification does not automatically invalidate the guarantee; the relevant claim may be declined where that work caused or materially contributed to the failure.

Failure to maintain a product does not automatically invalidate the guarantee; causation must be considered.

Where Harbour supplied installation, defects caused by Harbour's installation remain Harbour's responsibility.

Where a product or issue is not specifically addressed, Harbour will assess it objectively by reference to intended use, age, expected durability, material behaviour, reasonable care, environment and the available evidence.

If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply so far as legally possible.

5. Evidence and claims

Harbour may ask for information reasonably required to assess a claim, such as photographs, video, proof of purchase, batch/serial information, details of installation, and a description of care or operating conditions. Evidence requests should be proportionate to the issue and should not be used to create unnecessary barriers to a valid claim.

Part B - Component guarantee modules

1. Wooden Frame & Structure - Outdoor

Overview

This guarantee applies to the main structural wooden components of an outdoor product, including frames, legs, supports and structural joints. Wood is a natural material and will change with moisture, temperature, sunlight and age. Natural change is not a fault unless it becomes excessive or affects structural integrity or normal use.

What's included / not included

IncludedNot included
Structural failure caused by defective materials or manufacture.Natural variation in grain, colour, knots, texture or appearance.
Failure of structural joints caused by defective materials or manufacture.Normal weathering, fading, greying or colour change.
Excessive splitting, cracking, warping or distortion that materially affects strength, stability or normal use.Minor checking, movement, expansion or contraction consistent with outdoor timber.
Premature decay or deterioration attributable to a material or manufacturing defect.Damage caused by prolonged standing water, persistent damp, inappropriate storage or unsuitable cleaning where causative.
Defects caused by Harbour assembly/installation where Harbour supplied that service.Impact, overloading, misuse, accidental damage or causative unauthorised alteration.

Your obligations

  • Follow the care instructions applicable to the timber/product.
  • Keep timber reasonably clean and remove spills and organic debris promptly.
  • Avoid prolonged standing water and persistently damp storage conditions.
  • Allow wet furniture to dry and maintain ventilation when covered or stored.
  • Apply oil, shield or other treatment where the product-specific care instructions require it.
  • Report significant splitting, movement or deterioration that may affect safe use.

Causation principle. Failure to follow a care or maintenance requirement does not automatically invalidate the guarantee. It may affect a claim where the failure caused or materially contributed to the issue being claimed.

Care guide

  • Clean with a soft brush/cloth and mild soapy water; avoid abrasive cleaning and pressure washing.
  • Wipe spills promptly and use placemats/coasters on exposed wooden surfaces.
  • For acacia/eucalyptus and other products requiring treatment, follow the product-specific oil/shield schedule; teak may be allowed to weather naturally unless colour retention is desired.
  • Ensure furniture is dry before covering; use breathable, non-PVC-backed covers and maintain air space over flat wooden surfaces.
  • Store cushions separately in a dry place; for prolonged winter storage, a dry ventilated sheltered location is preferable.
  • Do not use ammonia/silicone-containing detergents or harsh abrasive tools on timber.

2. Wooden Frame & Structure - Indoor

Overview

This guarantee applies to the structural wooden elements of indoor furniture, including frames, legs, supports, carcasses and structural joints.

What's included / not included
